swoon coming to life

believe! in yourself
believe! in santa
so many things to believe in

finally got started on quilting my swoon...of course it was pieced using aurifil thread...and i am quilting it with aurifil mako cotton 50wt... my absolute favorite it for piecing...seams are strong, tight and lie it for quilting as it does not build up on the fabric but sits low on it...i went through my extensive collection of aurifil thread and came out with about a dozen colours
i went through my extensive collection of aurifil thread and came out with about a dozen colours and then i set about quilting...oh i am loving my new APQS makes moving that quilt about so much easier...
stitched in the ditch around the swoons and the set about quilting designs in each piece...loving my aurifil threads...strong and lint free...makes cleaning the machine easier
lots of work to quilt a large quilt but what is get is so worth it

christmas stocking ready to go...bring on the toys santa

bring it on Santa...i have finished Olivia's Christmas stocking...last year i bought a Wooly Lady Christmas stocking kit at my LQS...i had intended to get it done but it did not this year i bought a Aurifil Lana Wool Folk Art collection also at my several weeks ago i started to work on the stocking...i used mostly aurifil wool thread to blanket stitch this stocking and i love the way it turned out...
i have a wool quilt in kits sitting in my closet ready to be sewn and my plan is to get to work on it in january... but i need more aurifil lana wool thread...why why why doesn't aurifil thread have a black friday or cyber monday sale...i could really use a sale as i need lots of colours...
maybe Santa will fill my stocking with some wool thread...cuz Santa i have tried my best to be good all year long...

"once in a blue lizard" also known as "the quilt that hates me"

well i have finally finished my quilt...took me 14 months...some tears...some not so nice per my usual way of working i just launched off into sewing...i did have a idea in my head...not such i bright one now that i think of it...ok so i wanted to lizards to be crawling in different i sewed them onto rectangles and then cut and pieced those rectangles together...sound good right...wrong i ended up with a 84 inch bias seam from corner to corner...i could not get it to lay flat...enter the not so nice words...
insert bad words now
trying to get it to lay can see that it never will

finally taped it to the floor and pined the borders on least they were square...i then sewed them on top edge with a overcast stitch and trimmed the backside...ok so this is one not so square mess...
taped to the floor to get it as straight as possible

so i took it to my friend and we put it on her long arm got it as square and even as possible...stitched around each lizard and then i quilted the borders are all wavy no really very i quilted them at a angle to ease in the fullness...ah good feeling...that wasn't that bad...trimmed it square and what the heck all the threads popped back as the wool batting puffed up...ok boxed that thing up and hid it in a closet...finally decided to give it another go...sewed the edges down...took all the border quilting out and then requilted it...ah good feeling again...bought the binding fabric...folded it the wrong way and instead of having 40 inch long bias strips i had 20 inch long strips joined at a right angle...i then said bad words and threw everything in the corner...2 days and i got back at it...sewed the binding with many more joins then it should have had...sewed the binding on...ah good feeling...nope i was 12 inches short of down to very small 5 inch strips to make more...finished it up and hand sewed the binding along the back... finished finally except for the name change from
"once in a blue lizard" to "the quilt that hates me" what a challenge but i rose to meet it...

introducing "the quilt that hates me"
i really like the quilt now it is finished

ok one to the next quilt...half way thru my next lizard quilt...

what do you call a group of lizards?..herd...?

so what do you call when there is more then 3 lizards together...i have no idea but this is what they look like hanging out together..
slowly but surely the quilt is coming together...i am liking it quite a bit...but when i look at it i now think i am going to have to add grey borders with circles around the out side...what do you think

lizards hanging out on the horse corral rails...just where you would expect to find a herd of lizards...

when i was working on this quilt at the retreat this weekend someone told me the lizard in the bottom right hand corner looked like he had stuck is foot in a electrical socket...kind of does...

some of the sashings hanging over a small aluminium ladder...this ladder was one of out favourite toys as children growing up.
..i found it in the shed cleaned it up and moved it inside to my studio...when i look at it i remember all the fun times my siblings and i had using it to climb up trees, get on the roof (where we were not allowed), used it to get in the numerous tree forts we build over the years...many fond memories

the circles getting ready to be starched..going to take about twice as many as i have to go all
around the perimeter of my quilt

"once in a blue lizard x 2"

so several months ago i started a new lizard quilt...the design came easy but finding the fabrics has been more difficult...during a recent trip i stopped at several quilt store yielded 5 fabrics which all i am in the process of turning into lizards for the quilt...14 blocks in this quilt...that is no less then 14 lizards and some blocks may have more then 1 lizards...i have been tossing around the idea of groups of 2 or 3...
first 2 of 14 blocks and the sashing with circles...going to be lots of colour...lots of work all those circles...but i think it will be well worth the effort
ah how i love a quilt hanging outside blowing in the breeze...warms my heart...i have 2 more blocks started and ready to stitch down to their background fabrics

don't forget this is post number 98 ( i messed that up last time) and post number 100 will be a giveaway...just in time for the kids to head back to school and we head back to our quilting spaces

i have started working on my "swoon blocks" got the first one done...i must remember i am not any accurate piecer and this drives me crazy...i much prefer paper piecing and applique

i like the colours but wish i had used them in the exact opposite places...oh well it is the way it is...

my august "lucky star" block
i wish things were moving faster with my quilting but i will be happy with what i have...coveting is what gets us into be happy with what i have
