FMQ challenge wrap-up

so sad but it is time to say goodbye to the FMQ challenge of 2012...over the year i have learned so much and gained so much in terms of confidence with my FMQ...i learned about threads finding that i love my aurifil thread for piecing and quilting the way it sits down in my quilt and not on top of it...learned i like the dense quilting...i learned to slow down and take my is hard to be accurate when going to fast...the same may be said of driving one's car...i am so glad i just happened upon this challenge while "cruising the net"...i can't say enuf about sewcalgal and all the time she has invested in seeing this year long project to completion...where does that women get her energy and where does she get the time?...when i first found the challenge it was already february and i was one month behind...the first two months i added my photos by flicker and then i reactivated my old blog...learning to FMQ the piece, then take photos, importing them to i photo, editing the photos, then i added watermarks and imported them to my blog...all this was a big learning curve for me but has been so for the big reveal...drum roll please...

tutorials from january, february, march, april, may, june, july, august, september, bonus for october, november and finally to wind it up december
a more close up view of the little quilts...soon to have borders and then binding

it has been a year of fun and learning...thanx to all the people who joined in making this such a terrific experience...
thanx to all the quilting experts who taught us so much through out the year...
thanx to all the sponsors of the monthly prizes and grand prizes
thanx to sewcalgal for all her hard work and dedication in putting this challenge together

FMQ challenge bonus tutorial

i love the puffiness trapunto brings to quilts and quilt adds texture...often giving a quilt much more eye i was glad to see this bonus tutorial by Diane Loomis...i have used trapunto in quilts but usually just using it in a way that i found worked for me...i have never tried a method by a quilt teacher...first i used the design given to us in the tutorial and then branched out on my own with my own design which is a lizard as i am into will see it soon when i finish up my lizard quilt...

did someone say christmas party?

 did someone say party

christmas party, birthday party, dinner party....we all love parties don't we...any excuse to get together and laugh...really...this year at my house we will be celebrating both a birthday and christmas back to back...thought i would share my work in progress...which isn't quilting but rather a party for my granddaughter who turns one on dec 16...the christmas tree on the maternity ward last year was decorated in a nutcracker theme...this was so fitting as her mother was and still is a huge nutcracker ballet fan...

the table is getting set and awaiting the legions of goodies

elizabeth and i have worked back and forth on plans for decorations and menu...lots of sweets at this party...on the menu just to mention a few morsels are ballet shoe sugar cookies, mouse king sugar cookies, gingerbread snowflake cookies, gingerbread popcorn, candies nuts, white chocolate peppermint bark, dark chocolate macadamia nut bark, mennonite grandmother cookies, cupcakes and the list goes on...the goodie bags for small party guests to take home will have elf donuts, reindeer food, balls and more...the planning has been so much fun and making even more...

some party guests have already arrived...even the cold and snow could not keep them away...

even grandpa is getting into the swing of party planning...bring on the crystal, silver and guests lets get this party underway....
Happy birthday Olivia!
but for now we are going to join the party at
party on dudes!!!
