a sunday drive in the woods

my husband and i went for a drive today in the boreal forest which surrounds the town we live in...the sun peaked out thru the clouds...but the wind kept the temp low...we turned off the highway on to the jackpine alley forest service road...just off the highway we found some old building slowly returning to the earth...it always make me wonder about the people that lived in old houses and where they are now...

what path did their lives take...alive or not...what was their experience while living here in the forest...i looked for signs of a garden but alas there was none...only garbage strewn about...

there were a total of three houses...commune? family? what was this place and who were the people?

after exploring here we returned to the highway and drove to bear cub forest service road...the road was better maintained and more pleasant to drive...exploration here found the forest floor and meadow in places covered with purple violets...not large violets that grow in other areas but the small ones that make you want to get down on you knees to look at them...

the lady slippers were blooming in the pine forest floor...so delicate and beautiful... the pink is so pink...the slipper is so
delicate hard to get close to

spring in the boreal forest is so rapid and brings out the colour...winter is stunning with its white dress but spring is rapid and so fast that one can almost miss what is happening if you don't go out almost daily....the leaves hit the trees and the flowers spring to life....

 those tiny violets

pink, yellow, rust, white, green...hummmm maybe colours for a quilt...
