april 2012 free motion quilting challenge

in january i signed up for the free motion quilting challenge through
sew cal gal's blog....i have been working on getting better at free motion quilting...as with all things it is practice, practice, practice...being committed to having to produce work every month has been good for me as it does take practice to produce a piece of work you want to show the world....

the challenge this month was to make a stencil and then quilt that central design...i made a commitment last year to only work on my design...not to just copy others or produce quilts from patterns i have not designed... so the central design with the daisies is mine...if i was to do it again i would certainly make the daisies large....but as with all things practice makes perfect....

 detail of the quilted piece...

more detail...loving the free motion work...getting better...very relaxing

I love that you're only using your own designs and patterns--it's so much better to be original! What brand of thread did you use? Also, if you use the trapunto method on the daisies, then FM quilted the rest, they'd really stand out!

hi laura
i used some maderia polyester...the yellow...the green was aurifil 50 wt...i love the aurifil...i have used many different threads but love the aurifil best...i recently used some isacord which i liked...it was strong and i loved the sheen...you are right about the trapunto method for the daisies...will give that a whirl next time...

This is wonderful! Good for you for using your own designs. Most of the time I try to, too. But with the challenge this month I have to admit I used someone else's design.
